Body and Soul: Medical Anthropology and Social Justice
One of the best classes I took in my final year was another anthropology class taught by Dr. Rachel Chapman, titled "Body and Soul: Medical Anthropology and Social Justice." During this class, I focused a lot on our healthcare systems and the ways in which American healthcare is built to keep people sick and oppressed, and feeds into and reinforces capitalism. There are an many factors that affect the type of care different patients receive in our healthcare system, as I have diagrammed below:
Another assignment I did for this class was creating a "10 Point Program for a Better World," based off the Black Panther Party 10 Point Program. After five years of activism, education, and growth, this is my own 10 Point Program:
IRIS Research at Stanford
For the internship itself, we first had an orientation week at New Mexico Tech just outside of Albuquerque. It was an intensive training week where we learned seismic processing techniques, saw and learned about a lot of New Mexico geology, and even got to install our own seismometers and then process the data from them. Here is a picture of the "control center" for the seismometer I helped to install with three other interns:
This was an incredibly rewarding experience, and taught me a lot about what I might or might not be interested in for graduate school research. I also kept a research blog throughout the course of my internship, which can be found here!
I also kept a photo blog to document my time in California, which can be seen here.
And a picture of me and the other interns at San Lorenzo Canyon at the end of the week:
At the end of my 10-week internship, I had the opportunity to present my research at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Conference, the biggest geophysics conference in the country. Here is my poster with my research results:

Grad School!
Below is my Statement of Purpose for the Geophysics Ph.D. Program at University of Southern California. I have been accepted to this program under Dr. John Vidale and Dr. Tom Jordan, and will start my Ph.D. in the fall as a Provost Fellow!
